The great pretenders----pretending to write with brushes

Last Wednesday was no better than the day

before. On Tuesday, there was rain, but so the sun peeked out from the cloud, leaving the rest of the day fine and clear.

However, on Wednesday, our picnic day, it had

been raining all morning .  Against all odds, we

stuck to our plan.

At 11o’clock, we came to the Japanese Garden. Amazingly the rain stopped. The garden was full of Oriental bushes and flowers, attracting us to stay there for lunch.    We shared a diversity of food from everyone. It was such a wonderful time to sample different food and enjoyed the harmonious landscape.

After lunch, we followed the road to come to a

lookout which let us have a glimpse of the city

skyscrapers. It is surreal to be so close to the city

yet in close proximity to nature.

Further up we walked, we came to a big piece of

water. It was a lake half hidden in the mountain.

There are trees around and water birds were

spotted here and there. It was so full of tranquility

and beauty. We strolled along the lakeside, getting

into different groups to chat and laugh. It is such a

wonderful way to get to know one another amidst

the natural surroundings.

Studying the palm that has been on earth for 2

million years, one would aware the negligible

nature of one's being in the universe and be more

optimistic in one gains and loss in this life.

Before going  our separate ways, there were yells

that we should arrange another outing in the near future.

A happy calligrapher

Mr Jiang's art

Mr Jiang commenting homework

Mr Jiang Yuan had his last lesson with us last

Wednesday before he heads back home to China.

It had been a very enlightening lesson. Mr Jiang indicated that it is desirable for us to practise every day, even for half an hour. Of course, the more the better. If we are copying from a script, we should first try to imitate the exact strokes. It is like drawing a portrait. The image in the portrait should be as close to the real person as possible.

That’s why Mr Jiang said that we have to study the script: understand every stroke, understand is shape well before we start to write.

Mr Jiang said a good teacher will teach you how
to learn from the scripts, how to find the way to learn.

Thank you Mr Jiang for being such enthusiastic in

sharing his writing experience with us.  We hope to see him again when he visits his daughter and family in Brisbane soon.

Most importantly, I hope calligraphy can bring

about fun and pleasure to everyone and to share with among friends.

The real Calligraphy Carnival ?

Mr He and his work 何俠齋書

Mr Jiang's work  江元書

Last Saturday, 21 May2016, a calligraphy

TOP members were asked by Mr Allen Yu to help

in setting up the event. TOP members would take

any opportunities to know more about

calligraphy.

According to Ms Lim, a Taiwanese leader, Mr Yu

was appointed chairman of the calligraphy

association and Lisa Sue as treasurer.

TOP wish the calligraphy association all the best

Can’t do without you

Hotel style high tea in TOP

Glamourous fruit bouquet

 TOP mums

Last Wednesday was a real good time for

everyone. There was just one and a half hour for

us to buy the various cakes from the cake shop in

Sunnybank Plaza, slice them to mini pieces and

put them nicely on the 3 tiers.

Then Yvonne was busy shaping the fruit salad and

then rushed to get the roses from Wooly and

speedily packing them individually so that our

ladies could take them home happily.

To our best surprise, Wing brought in spicy beef

shin; Mrs Tsien was generous to present the

mountain of Tuna in Croissant, Sam brought

crystal dessert, Wee Kun brought almond

minicake and Sharon brought garlic bread.

Thanks to everyone who had helped and offered to

help. We will need your help next time.

All of you have made TOP  Mother’s Day

celebration a success.
