Calligraphy a big hit in Regional Toowoomba

Toowoomba Chinese New Year Festival
16 Feb 2019

Taking a break after arriving at the Information Centre of the town of Toowoomba

Finally came to the venue after 1 1/2 hours' drive

All the strong men started setting up

It's busy from the beginning

This dad was so proud of his December born babe, stressing her comfortable outfit was Taiwan-made

Tea ceremony was a hit this year

Visitors were keen to be part of the tea ceremony

Having a good chat with this lovely young-at-the heart lady

Mrs Chow's explanation was definitely impressive

Channel 7 was there to report the event and even covered us in their evening news

Dkota was happy with his Chinese name

Maris is from Czech Republic, working as a volunteer in Gold Coast, teaching sports to the handicapped. He couldn't spare a gold coin but I promised to give the lucky name scroll to him for free, inspired by his enthusiasm.

Young Indian lady has a long name

So glad to see Daphne, co-organiser of the event

Pack up time had come

Taking Mr Jiang to visit the Japanese Garden

Enjoying each others' company in calligraphy and sightseeing

Sweetest moment of the day

It had been a wonderful day in Toowoomba, although throughout the 4-hour lucky scroll writing activity, we hardly had a break . We were overwhelmed by the passion of the local people, who appreciated our art and would like to bring home our blessings for the whole year.

Last but not least, we thanked the USQ Student Guild who organised the event and especially to Daphne who guided me all the way through the administrative procedures. Without these beautiful people, our Toowoomba trip would not have been a success.

Our story could not end without thanking the devoted TOP members who made up the calligraphy squad, namely Mr Wang, Mr Jiang, Mr Huang, Sam, Liang, Iris, Brenda and honoured volunteer Mrs Chow. It was a long day starting from 7:45am -5:00pm  Without the passion, we could not make it.

Lastly, the backstage crew who didn't go there but had helped so much in the preparation.

Thank you and see you next year!
